Barracuda expands RMM platform

Share post

Cloud security specialist Barracuda has added numerous additional functions to its Remote Monitoring and Management (RMM) platform. The most important improvements in the current version include integrations with Windows Defender Antivirus, updates to patch management functions from Microsoft and third-party providers, improved integration with Barracuda Intronis Backup and the integration of ServiceNow / Service Desk.

With the free tool from Microsoft Windows Defender Antivirus, Managed Service Providers (MSP) can now offer their customers integrated antivirus protection. Barracuda RMM's simple policy configuration options allow MSPs to centrally manage and alert Windows Defender Antivirus for all files, folders and selected devices.

Central management of alarms

Third-party applications have become an increasingly popular attack vector. It is therefore necessary for MSPs to understand third-party software updates to protect their customers as an important part of their portfolio of security services. The latest version of Barracuda RMM sees patch management as an important continuity within the security strategy. The service thus offers the possibility of applying patches immediately to identified devices and thus creates a better overview of which devices are online or offline. Barracuda RMM also includes advanced software management patch management as part of the onboarding process for new MSP partners.

Seamless synchronization of RMM and Intronis backup

Barracuda RMM and Intronis Backup can now be seamlessly synchronized. Missing backup reports and warnings about backups that cannot be started can be viewed within the RMM tool. Together, Barracuda RMM and Intronis Backup provide sound protection and create a security situation that covers regular assessment and protection of the data in a customer's infrastructure.

ServiceNow is an MSP-focused PSA (Professional Services Automation) tool that enables a powerful, results-oriented IT ticket management system. Following the demand from managed service providers for robust PSA tools, Barracuda has added the intelligent workflow from ServiceNow to the IT ticket integration of Barracuda RMM. As a result of the bi-directional integration with ServiceNow PSA, additional events are created in ServiceNow when a ticket is created manually or automatically in Barracuda RMM. This integration enables MSPs to use their established event management, alert management and ticket management systems in ServiceNow with Barracuda RMM.

Other improvements to Barracuda RMM

  • Improved support for macOS, including a Mac device manager agent, and upgrades for Catalina and Big Sur
  • A new MSI installation package for the Barracuda RMM Device Manager Agent for Windows
  • Improved alerting emails, including location, device and alarm configuration names in the subject lines of alerting emails
  • Improved search in reports and more

"The continuous improvements we are making to Barracuda RMM underscore our ongoing commitment to providing the best possible support for MSPs in expanding their security competence," says Kay-Uwe Wirtz, Regional Account Director MSP, (DACH). “RMM tools need to become part of the day-to-day security assessment and remediation of managed services. We want to simplify these tasks for service providers by adding new capabilities, giving MSPs an expanded toolset that allows them to reduce security risks and strengthen the protection of customer data and applications."
